Mac an BHIADHTAIGH—VII—MacVeety, MacVity, MacVeity, etc.; 'son of the hospitaller' (Irish 'biadhtach'). This surname has apparently come to us from Scotland; at least, I can discover no early instances in Ireland. Compare with Biadhtach.
