Mac an BHEATHA, Mac an BHEATHADH—IVM'Evaghe, M'Eveighe, M'Ivagh, M'Vaghe, M'Veha, M'Vehy, MacAbee, MacIveagh, MacAveigh, MacAvey, (MacAvoy, MacEvoy, MacVoy), MacVeagh, MacVeigh, MacVey, MacVay, MacVea, Vahy, Veigh, (Veasy, Vesey), etc.; 'son of Mac an Bheathadh,' (an Irish personal name, meaning 'son of life '); a common surname in many parts of Ulster, found also in some parts of Leinster and Connacht. There is a universal tendency to assimilate its anglicised forms to those of Mac Fhíodhbhuidhe (which see), and consequently it is often disguised as MacAvoy, MacEvoy, etc. In Co. Mayo, it is sometimes strangely anglicised Veasy and Vesey.
