Ó Maoláin

Ó MAOLÁIN—IO Mollane, O Melane, O Moylane, O'Mullane, O'Mullan, Mullane, Mulhane, Melane, Millane, Millan, Mullan, Mullen, Mullon, Mollan, Moylan, Mullins, &c.; 'descendant of Maolán' (diminutive of maol, bald). This surname, which is one of the commonest in Ireland, is found in almost every part of the country, but under a great variety of anglicised forms. There are, no doubt, several distinct families so called, but apparently the only dynastic family of the name was that of O'Kane's country, in Co. Derry. Ó Maoileáin (which see) is a variant.
