Ó hÉINEACHÁIN—IO Henechan, O Heneghane, Heanaghan, Henaghan, Henehan, Henihan, Henekan, (Heenan), Bird; 'descendant of Eidhneachán'; the name of a family of Ui Fiachrach in Co. Mayo, who were formerly proprietors of a large estate in the parishes of Manulla and Balla; still common in that county, sometimes pronounced Ó hÉanacháin, and anglicised Bird, being erroneously supposed to be derived from 'éan,' a bird.
