Ó Rothláin

Rev Patrick Woulfe
1923

Ó ROTHLÁIN—IRoolane, Roland, Rowland, (Rowley); perhaps originally Ó Roghalláin, a variant of Ó Roghallacháin (see Ó Roileacháin above); the anglicised form Rowley would go to show that Ó Roghallaigh (which see) was a variant; the name of a Connacht family, formerly chiefs of Coolcarney, in the barony of Gallen, Co. Mayo; still common in Mayo and Sligo, pronounced Ó Roithleáin, which see.
