Ó RAITHILE—IO Rathyly, O Rahillie, O'Rahilly, Rahilly, (O'Reilly, Reilly); 'descendant of *Raithile'; the name of a family of Cinel Eoghain in Ulster, descended, according to MacFirbis, from Echean, son of Eoghan, son of Niall of the Nine Hostages; but for several centuries it has been almost peculiar to Munster, where it is found chiefly in Cork, Kerry and Limerick. To this family belonged the greatest of our modern Irish poets, Egan O'Rahilly, whose poems have been published by the Irish Texts Society.
