Ó Maoltuile

Rev Patrick Woulfe
1923

Ó MAOLTUILE—IO Multilly, O Multully, Tully, Flood; 'descendant of Maoltuile' (devoted to the will, i.e., of God; erroneously supposed to mean chief of the flood); also Mac Maoltuile and Mac Mhaoltuile; the name of a medical family in Connacht and other parts of Ireland. They were hereditary physicians to the O'Connors of Connacht, the O'Reillys of Breifney, &c. The name was not uncommon in Ossory, where, as early as the year 1571, it was anglicised Fludd.
