Ó MAOILÉIDIGH—IO Mulledy, O Mulleadie, O Maledy, O Meledy, Mulleady, Melledy, Meleady, Meledy, Melody, Malady; 'descendant of Maoléidigh' (armoured chief). This surname, in the 16th century, was peculiar to the midlands, especially Westmeath and Offaly, where the family was highly respectable. There appears to have been also a family of the name in early times in Corcumroe, Co. Clare.
