MAINGNÉIR—VIII—Magnel, Magnell, Mangner, Magner, Magnier, &c.; probably 'son of Magnel' (Norman diminutive of Magnus). Castlemagner, Co. Cork, was formerly known as Magnelstown, from William Magnel. The family is an old one in Co. Cork; now numerous also in Co. Limerick.
