Mac ANNAIDH—IVM'Anna, M'Canna, MacCanny, Canny; 'son of Annadh'; the fullest and most correct form of the surname which is usually written Mac Anna or Mac Canna, which see. This form is still in use in Co. Clare, anglicised Canny. In the 16th century, the MacCannys were seated in Co. Limerick, and in 1598 one of them held the castle of Drombanny, near the city.
