Mac An Éanaigh

Rev Patrick Woulfe
1923

Mac an ÉANAIGH, MacAneany, MacAneeny, MacEneany, MacAneny, MacNeney, and, by 'translation,' Bird; a corruption of Mac Conaonaigh, which see. The 'translated' form, Bird, is, of course, incorrect, being founded on the erroneous supposition that the surname is derived from 'éan,' a bird.
