THE Gilmartin family is descended from Milesius, King of Spain, through the line of his son Ir. The founder of the family was Laoiseach Kean More, son of the famous warrior, Conal Kearnach. The ancient name was Guillamartin, which means “Living Boy.” The possessions of the sept were located in the present Counties of Tyrone and Donegal.
