Ó LUAIN—IO Loaine, O Loane, O'Loan, O'Lone, Loane, Lamb, Lambe; 'descendant of Luan' (warrior, champion); the name (1) of a Limerick family who were anciently lords of Deisbeg, now the barony of Smallcounty, in the east of Co. Limerick, but have been long dispersed through Limerick, Cork and Kerry; and (2) of a Monaghan family, now dispersed through Ulster. It is anglicised O'Loan, Loane in the north of Ireland, but generally Lambe, by 'translation,' in the south.
