Ó DUIBHGEANNÁIN—I—O Duigenain, Duigenan, Duignan, Dignan, Deignan, Duignam, Dignam, &c.; 'descendant of Dubhgeannán' (diminutive of Dubhceann, blackhead); the name of a distinguished literary family in Co. Roscommon, who were hereditary chroniclers to the Clann Mulrony and Conmaicne, that is, to the MacDermotts, O'Farrells, Magrannells, &c. Their chief residence was at Kilronan.
