Ó CROIDHEÁIN—IO Criane, O Creane, O Crean, Crean, Creen, &c.; 'descendant of Croidheán' (diminutive of croidhe, heart); a variant of Ó Craidheáin and Ó Croidheagáin, which see; the name of a family of Cinel Eoghain who settled at Sligo in the 16th century, where they became wealthy merchants, and later on acquired a considerable amount of landed property. The pedigree of the family is given by MacFirbis (p. 140).
