Ó CROIDHEAGÁIN—IO Cridigan, O Crigane, O Crigan, Creegan, Creigan, Cregan, Creggan; 'descendant of Croidheagán' (diminutive of croidhe, heart, a term of endearment); also written Ó Craidheagáin and Ó Cridheagáin; a variant of Ó Craidheáin and Ó Croidheáin, which see; the name of a family of Cinel Eoghain who, in the 16th century, were seated in Donegal. Some of them later removed to Sligo where they became wealthy merchants and landed proprietors. MacFirbis (p. 140) gives the pedigree of the family.
