SCORLÓG—XIIScorloge, Scorloke, Scurlok, Scurlock, Shirlock, Shearlock, Sherlock; Anglo-Saxon 'Scortlog,' i.e., short lock, one with shorn locks. This family, which, to judge from the name, is of Anglo-Saxon origin, had settled in Ireland before the beginning of the 13th century, and soon after became very widespread, being found in Dublin, Meath, Louth, Wexford, Waterford, Tipperary, &c.
