SCIDIGH—VIIISkydy, Skiddie, Skiddy; 'son of Skithi' (a Norse personal name, probably the same as 'skyti,' an archer); an old Cork surname of Danish origin. The Skiddys formed a clan after the Irish fashion, with a 'chief of the name.' No fewer than thirty-four Skiddys figure on the roll of mayors of Cork.
