Ó GODÁIN—I—Goddan, (Godwin, Goodwin); 'descendant of Godán' (diminutive of god, stammerer); also Ó Gadáin; the name of a Mayo family, originally seated in the parish of Moygawnagh, in the barony of Tirawley, but long dispersed. The anglicised forms are given on the authority of O'Donovan. I have, however, failed to verify them, and have found the name only in the form of Ó Goidín, which see.
