Ó FIALÁIN—IO Fillan, Fylan, Fyland, Philan, (Phelan); 'descendant of Fialán' (diminutive of fial, generous); the name of a distinguished bardic family in the north of Ireland. Its anglicised forms can hardly be distinguished from those of Ó Faoláin, which see.
