Ó CANÁIN—IO Cannane, Cannan, Cannon, Canning, &c.; 'descendant of Canán' (an old Irish personal name, probably diminutive of cano, a wolf-cub); the name of a branch of the Ui Maine, in Co. Galway, of the same stock as the O'Maddens. See Ó Conáin.
