Ó Breólláin

Rev Patrick Woulfe
1923

Ó BREÓLLÁIN—IO Brollan, Brolan, (Bolan, Boland); possibly the same as Ó Beólláin, which see. MacFirbis gives the descent of this family from Ainmire, son of Cormac Caoch, son of Cairbre, son of Niall of the Nine Hostages. They belong, therefore, to Clann Chairbre of Co. Sligo, in whose territory the Ui Beólláin also were seated. This, together with the fact that the name is now almost universally anglicised Bolan and Boland, would seem to point to the identity of the two names. Ó Breólláin is still in use in Co. Mayo, but is very rare, and there also is anglicised Bolan and Boland.
