Ó BANÁIN—IO Banane, O Bannan, O Bynnan, Banane, Banan, Bannan, Bannon, Banim, &c, and, by translation, White; 'descendant of Banán' (a diminutive of bán, white). There are several distinct families of this name, the best-known and most numerous being that of Ely O'Carroll, in the present Offaly. Other families of the name were seated in Mayo and Fermanagh.
