Mac UIDHILÍN, Mac UIDHLÍN, Mac UIGHILÍN—VM'Uilin, M'Cuyllen, M'Cuilline, M'Quilline, MacQuillin, MacQuillian, MacQuillan, MacQuillen, MacQuillon, &c, 'son of Hugelin' (a double diminutive of Hugh), or 'son of Hudelin' (a double diminutive of Hud, a 'pet' form of Richard); the name of a family, said to be of Welsh origin, who settled, soon after the Anglo-Norman invasion, in the Route, in the north of Co. Antrim. Towards the close of the 16th century, the MacDonnells wrested from them the greater part of their territory and completely destroyed their power.
