Mac TÓMAIS, Mac TOMÁIS—V—M'Thomas, Thomson, Thompson, Thomas, &c.; 'son of Thomas'; the first of these forms, which came to us from Scotland, reflects an older pronunciation of Thomas. In Co. Mayo, it is often made Ó Tómais.
