Mac GIOLLA FHAOLÁIN—IVM'Gillallen, MacClellan, MacLellan, MacClelland, MacLeland, Gilfillan, Gilfilland, Kilfillan, Gillilan, Gilliland, Gellan, Gelland, Cleeland, Clelland, Clellond, Leland, &c; 'son of Giolla Fhaoláin' (servant of St. Faolan); the name of a family of the Ui Fiachrach race in Co. Sligo; still extant at the beginning of the 17th century, but has apparently since died out. It is, however, at present common in Ulster where it is of late Scottish origin.
