Mac GAOITHÍN—IV—MacGeehin, MacGeehan, Mageehan, Mageahan, MacGihen, MacGihan, MacGehan, MacGahan, Magahan, Megahan, MacGean, Magean, Gahan; 'son of Gaoithín' (probably a 'pet' form of Maolghaoithe, chief of the wind); an Ulster surname. In the 16th century, it was almost peculiar to the counties of Down and Donegal.
