Mac DHUBHGHAILL—IV—M'Cowgall, M'Cougald, M'Cowyle, M'Cooel, M'Cual, M'Coole, M'Cole, M'Coyle, MacCool, MacCole, Coole, Cole, Coyle, Coiles, &c.; a variant of Mac Dubhghaill, which see. This is the usual form of the surname in the spoken language, even when the radical D is retained in the anglicised form. Compare with Mac Dhomhnaill.
