Mac COITIL—VM'Ketyll, Kettyle, Kettle; 'son of Ketill' (a Norse personal name, Anglo-Saxon 'Cytel'); a rare, but well-known Irish surname, probably of Norse origin. In the 16th century, it was peculiar to Co. Louth.
