Mac CEARNAIGH—IVM'Carny, M'Kearnie, M'Karney, MacKearney, MacCarney, Kearney, Carney; 'son of Cearnach' (victorious). The original home of this family appears to have been Ballymacarney in Co. Meath, but in the 16th century the name was found chiefly in Ulster, in the counties of Down, Armagh and Donegal.
