Mac CAIRTEÁIN—IVM'Keartan, M'Curtaine, M'Curtayne, MacCurtain, Curtayne, Curtain, Curtin, &c.; an attenuated form of Mac Cartáin, which see. This family, which is a branch of that of MacCartan of Co. Down, had settled in Co. of Cork before the end of the 16th century. Father Connor Mac Cairteain (anglicised Curtin), P.P. of Glanmire and an Irish poet of no mean order, died in the year 1737.
