Mac an MHADAIDH—VII—MacAvady, MacEvady, MacAvaddy, MacEvaddy, MacVady, Covaddy, (Madden); 'son of the dog' (Irish 'madadh'); an old Mayo surname; now very often incorrectly anglicised Madden, with which it is partly synonymous.
