Mac an GHAILL—VIIM'Agayll, M'Agoyle, M'Egeill, MacGill, Gill, [Stapleton]; 'son of the foreigner' (Irish 'gall'); a variant of Mac an Ghoill, which see. This was the Irish name assumed by the Stapletons of Co. Tipperary.
