Mac an FHILEADH, Mac an FHILIDH—VII—M'Anelly, M'Enelly, M'Enillowe, M'Enilly, M'Inilly, MacAnilly, MacNilly, MacNeilly, MacNielly, MacNeely, MacNeally, MacNealey, Maneilly, Maneely, Meneely, Mineely; 'son of the poet' (Irish 'file'); not a very common surname, and almost peculiar to N.E. Ulster. To be distinguished from Mac Conghaile and Mac Conghaola which are sometimes similarly anglicised.
