LUIBHÉIL—VIII—Lovel; 'son of Lovel' (diminutive of Love, a Norman personal name. It occurs in Domesday Book. Compare with Lovet which is another diminutive of the same). As a surname it was rare in Ireland, and found chiefly in Kilkenny.
