HOIREABHÁRD—VIII—Hereward, Herward; 'son of Hereweard' (an Anglo-Saxon personal name); an old surname in Ireland. 'Adam Hereward' occurs in the Dublin Roll of Names, A.D. 1216, and somewhat later in the same century Simon Hereward was mayor of Limerick.
