HÉARÚN—XIIHerun, Heyrun, Heyron, Heron, Hearon, Herron, Hearn, Hearne, Herne, etc.; Middle English 'herun,' i.e., the heron, one with long slender legs and neck like a heron. This surname in Ireland dates back to the early 13th century, but does nor appear to have been ever very common, and was confined to South Leinster.
