DONDÚN, DONNDÚN—XIde Aundon, Daundon, Doundowne, Dondon, Dundon; Norman 'de Anton,' i.e., of Hampton in Middlesex, near which is the old royal palace of Hampton Court. Hampton is sometimes found in Anglo-Saxon charters as 'Heantune,' and was latinised 'Antona'; Antonae Curia was Hampton Court. The Dundons are an old and respectable family in Co. Limerick. At the end of the 16th century, they held the castle of Ballystine, near Askeaton.
