DÉABHRÚS—XIde Evereux, Devereux; i.e. 'of Evereux' in Normandy. This family came into England at the time of the Norman Conquest, and into Ireland at the time of the Anglo-Norman invasion, when they settled in Co. Wexford. "The Devereuxes," writes Dr. E. Hogan, "were the wealthiest and most powerful of all the Strongbowian race in Wexford."
