de NORTÚN—XIde Nortune, Norton; Norman 'de Nortune,' i.e., of Norton, a common place-name in England. This surname came into Ireland soon after the Anglo-Norman invasion, but has always been very rare. Most of our Nortons are really O'Naughtons.
