de HARPÚR—XII—Harpur, Harper; Norman 'le Harpour,' 'le Harpur,' i.e., the harper; the name of an old Anglo-Norman family who settled, probably in the 13th century, in Co. Wexford, where they are still numerous. The 'Harpers,' as distinct from the 'Harpurs,' are later settlers.
