de GRAE—XI and XIIde Grey, de Graye, Grey, Gray; (1) Norman 'de Grey,' i.e., of Grey, some spot in England, probably; (2) Norman 'le Grey,' i.e., the grey, from the colour of the hair. Both forms occur in early Irish records, but 'de Grey' was by far the more common.
