DALAITHÍD—XIde la Hide, Delahide, Delahoyde; i.e., 'of the hide,' a measure of land sufficient to support a family (about 120 acres), from residence on or thereby; an early Anglo-Norman surname. 'Roger de la Hide ' was a member of the Dublin Guild-Merchant in 1226. The family settled in Dublin, Meath and Kildare.
