The following are some of the changes in second letters most commonly met with:—

Changes from one vowel to another—

a changed into	e as Bagley	Begley.
a	o as Laughhn	Loughlin.
e	i as Nesbitt	Nisbett.
e	o as Delahunty	Dolohunty.
o	u as Molloy	Mulloy.
u	i as Mulligan	Milligan.

Second letter, where a vowel, is dropped, as—

a	Eagan	Egan.
i	Aiken	Aken.
