THE Courtney family is of Norman origin, and came to Ireland in the year 1171, settling in the present Counties of Tyrone, Tipperary, and Cork, and also in ancient Thomond, embracing the present Counties of Limerick and Clare.

Among the honored representatives of this ancient family in the United States may be mentioned the Hon. John Courtney, of Brooklyn, N. Y., who served as judge for many years in that City.
