ÚGÁN—XIIUgan, Owgan, Wogane, Ougan, Oogan, Ogan, Wogan, Vogan; Welsh 'gwgan,' from 'gwg,' a frown, a scowl. The Wogans settled soon after the Anglo-Norman invasion in Co. Kildare, where their chief seat was at Rathcoffey. The family produced several distinguished men.
