TALBÓID—VIIITalebot, Talbote, Talbot; 'son of Talebot' (a Norman personal name). The Talbots came over to England with William the Conqueror. Richard Talebot is mentioned in Domesday Book. His descendant and namesake, Richard Talbot, accompanied Henry II to Ireland and was granted the lordship of Malahide, Co. Dublin, which has continued in his descendants to the present day. The Talbots have at different times filled many of the highest offices of Church and State in Ireland.
