PRÍS—VI—Preece, Pryse, Price, &c.; Welsh 'Ap-Rhys,' i.e., son of Rhys (a Welsh personal name). This is, no doubt, the origin in the great majority of instances, but such forms as 'le Pryce' and 'de la Prise' in early Anglo-Irish records show that it is not always so. Price is an old surname in Ireland.
