POTAR—XIIPoter, Potter; Norman 'le Poter,' i.e., the potter, maker or seller of earthenware pots. This surname came into Ireland about the time of the Anglo-Norman invasion. 'Philys Poter' and 'John le Poter' occur in the Dublin Roll of Names, A.D. 1216.
