Ó MUGHRÓIN—IO Morone, O'Moran, Moran; 'descendant of Mughrón' (slave-seal); the name (1) of one of the chief families of Clann Chathail, a branch of the Siol Muireadhaigh, in the present Co. Roscommon; and (2) of a branch of the Ui Maine, in Co. Galway, who were chiefs of Cruffon, an extensive district comprising the barony of Killyan and part of that of Ballymoe. The name has been long changed to Ó Moghráin (which see) and is now anglicised Moran.
